Purpose: Since inception we have built or renovated 116 homes in the New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater and Oak Hill region for families who could never hope to buy a home through the normal home mortgage financing channel. Through tithing to Habitat for Humanity International we have built over 100 homes in Argentina, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Guatemala. As each home is sold we tithe the funds necessary to build a home in another country.
Financial: 100% of all donations go directly to construction and repair programs. All Administrative costs are paid through the “ReStore”. Over 150 volunteers in excess of 22,000 hours per year.
Southeast Volusia Habitat for Humanity (SEVHFH) was incorporated in 1989 as a nonprofit corporation. It is just one of nearly 2000 Habitat for Humanity affiliates in the US. Over 100 homes have been built or renovated in Southeast Volusia County alone, for low or very low income families, in New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater and Oak Hill. Volunteer workers greatly reduce the building costs and a ‘zero interest’ home mortgage that makes monthly payments manageable. The family has a ‘Sweat Equity’ requirement of 350-500 hours. Once completed, the house is sold to the family at cost. The Habitat home ownership program is rigorously administered. All prospective Habitat homeowners must also attend a series of home ownership seminars conducted by Habitat for Humanity and Volusia county personnel. All 100% of donations from First Presbyterian Church of New Smyrna Beach are used in the construction program.
Principal funding for ongoing home construction comes from two sources – the monthly mortgage payments made by existing Habitat homeowner base and the funds raised in the Habitat Thrift Store.
Volunteers are the heart of the organization!
